THE FAIRY TALES SERIES

In the Fairy Tales Series, Chaix uses characters of well known fairy tales such as Snow White, the Little Mermaid, and the Sleeping Beauty as a starting point for stories in her paintings, then lets viewers continue by supplying their own interpretations. The foundation of myth serves as an entry point.

Installation around The Little Mermaid fairy tale and painting
(Electric Lodge theater)

In collaboration with:
Stephanie Combe, sculptor
Ray Mack, composer/dj
Danica Sheridan, performer
Leigh Hennessy, performer
Paul Sangster/Future Lighting, lights effects/projections

The paintings from The Fairy Tales Series such as the Little Mermaid become the backgrounds of a very special stage:
A rusty large aquarium, where the Sea Witch and the Little Mermaid (real life performers Danica Sheridan and Leigh Henessy) seat side by side in a troubled aquatic yet electric light .                                                                                                                         .

The music, deep and strange underwater semi-mute emotion takes us to the bottom but can we see the flickering light of the surface through the dark water?

CAFE SUD SERIES

"Chaix likes to explore the ambiguity of relationships in painting individuals, couples, and groups.
The psychological themes that her subjects represent are like film narratives that give viewers plot clues.
The self-reflective quality of her characters offers dialogue between painter
and viewer which is aptly demonstrated in her Café Sud series."

- Teresa Morales,  art historian, on the "Café Sud" series
